The team behind Snapchat has shared details on Chat 2.0, the latest update for the mobile app that adds instant video replies, audio notes and more.
Fans of the social app will be pleased to hear that there’s a number of interesting features setting this latest build of Snapchat apart from previous versions.
Now, it’s easier than ever to start a chat ‘instantly’ with a friend through video. To add to that, A Snapchat spokesperson mentions that it’s possible to record and send an audio note if your friend is unavailable to respond to a Snapchat message right away.
Speaking over on the Snapchat blog, the app’s makers write:
“What we love most about the new Chat is how easily you can transition between all these ways of communicating — just like you do in person. When that’s possible, you aren’t texting, calling, or video chatting… you’re just talking. We’ve been working on this redesign for a while — we can’t wait to hear what you think!”
Snapchat is also introducing Auto-Advance Stories in the Chat 2.0 update, which is now the fastest way to stay up to date with contacts. As the blog post mentions, when users finish watching a story, the next one begins automatically. Swiping will skip ahead, and pulling down will exit the feature.
Just recently, we reported on news that Snapchat has partnered with Bitstrips, after buying the personalized emoji group for a reported $100 million.
According to Fortune’s Dan Primack, the money made from the deal will be offered up ‘in a mix of cash and stock’. Bitstrips is responsible for bitmoji, a popular Android app allowing users to create personalized avatars and place those cartoons into text messages.
