By now, you’ve probably heard and read a fair bit about Huawei‘s newest flagship devices, the P9, and P9 Plus, that launched at an event in London a couple of weeks back. While the presentation focussed heavily on Huawei’s collaboration with Leica in developing the P9’s dual-camera setup, the handset’s part in Huawei’s ambitious plan to sell 140 million handsets in 2016 was also mentioned, as well as a hint as to when the company’s next flagship will be announced.
Huawei’s Mobile Production Line President, Gang He, said that the P9 and P9 Plus production line is capable of manufacturing more than 10 million units. The Mate 8, for example, has already chipped in with 4 million sales in the four months since its launch. Considering that the P9 and Plus have received much more exposure marketing wise, you can see why Huawei expects the two new flagship smartphones to sell well.
Since Gang also mentioned that there will be other high-end models with featuring the dual-lens setup, but that the P9 and P9 Plus are Huawei’s only flagship devices for the 1st half of 2016. Thus, it’s possible to extrapolate that the Mate 9 will only be announced in the second half of the year.
All-in-all, Huawei’s fortunes are on the up, with the Chinese electronics company currently enjoying a 63% percent rise in sales for its smartphone division, compared with a 61% increase overall.
What do you think of the P9 and P9 Plus? Are you tempted to buy a Huawei smartphone this time round? Don’t forget, our review of the P9 is coming up in case you are on the fence.
