For the last three years, HTC’s phones shipped with underwhelming cameras. It was until last year’s One M9 and One A9 that the disappointment became clear for the company. With the HTC 10, it’s all different. The 2016 flagship’s camera is actually tied with Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge in DxOMark’s rankings. When you’re tied with Samsung, you’re sitting pretty.

Wondering what results the HTC 10’s camera produces? We put together a little gallery of camera samples from the phone, showing you various outdoor and indoor shots in different settings.

Hit the break to go through the gallery.

The camera on HTC’s flagship is impressive outside with or without sunlight, and I can definitely say it’s on par with what Samsung is doing. If anything, Samsung’s phones are just quicker to focus and capture a picture without giving up any quality. When bright light is a little hard to get inside, the HTC 10’s results can be scattered; however, it wasn’t worth knocking. The only phones capable of ignoring lighting woes are the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.

Overall, I’m very pleased with the HTC 10’s camera. There are things HTC could fix in future software updates, but on the surface the camera is fit for a high-end device. The letdown of previous phones from HTC isn’t repeated here.

We’ll soon be performing a camera shootout between the LG G5, HTC 10, and Samsung Galaxy S7. Until then, check out our rundown comparison of the three flagships.
