Windows Explorer always crashes

I have 40 users who RDP into Windows Server2003. They are all controlled by a
group policy so they have limited access. They do have access to use Windows
Explore but shortly after opening it they get an error message that it has
failed and needs to close. Any idea if there is a patch out there for this or
is there something in the Group Policy I need to work with?

When I restart the server I end up getting a large number of prompts asking
me if I want to submit each of these incidents to Microsoft.

Thanks.

Hello Jack,

Check your event viewer for errors and post them here.

Thanks. The error is:

Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.3790.3959, faulting module
ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.3959, fault address 0x0001a379.

The Windows Explorer may conflict with another application. Try to clean boot to test it. These links may help,

Re: Windows Explorer always crashes

And you left off the last few words after the fault address which would say ***memory cannot be read** This can signify 2 scenarios.

(1) Conflict as Robert posted
(2) Malware infection which is more likely with that error.

See if this error when it shows if it has different numbers after the fault address (changes each time). Then you will have a better idea

RE: Windows Explorer always crashes

That could be a profile issue.
Does it happen with new users too? How about the local administrator?

RE: Windows Explorer always crashes

This happens with all users who don't have admin privileges, as far as I'm
aware. Not everyone uses windows explorer.

RE: Windows Explorer always crashes

Thanks for the responses. I'm hoping it's not malware as I run McAfee on the
server and scan the server every couple of weeks with bitdefender to catch
anything that may have gotten through. I will try these suggestions when the
users are not on the server, which means on a weekend.

Thanks again.

RE: Windows Explorer always crashes

Try copying the profile of a user that works fine. Just to check.
