The message seems basic enough, so it MAY be that your
shell32.dll is not outdated (see below) but damaged, but if that
was the case, you would be having many other problems. Also,
FWIW, I have NEVER run across a "damaged" system file.
The SHELL32.DLL grew considerably with every new release of
Windows, and unfortunately, many programs use calls to that DLL
for their proper functioning. The games you are DL'g may simply
need a newer version of Windows. I have run across this problem
with many newer programs (mostly those to do with the Internet),
but since older is usually better and much faster, no problem.
Then again, I'm not a gamer.
If you are a serious gamer, get a newer XP/Vista machine with a
snazzy video card, don't connect it to the net and use IT for
gaming only (and other processor/graphics-intensive tasks).
