- New Michigan COVID restrictions were announced on Sunday, with fresh measures like a pause of in-person high school classes as well as temporarily closing movie theaters and indoor dining in restaurants.
- Dr. Scott Atlas, a coronavirus advisor to President Trump, tweeted in response to the new measures a suggestion that people need to "rise up" against them.
- The tweet immediately provoked backlash since Whitmer himself was the target of a kidnapping plot unveiled last month involving a far-right group that wanted to "rise up."
New Michigan COVID restrictions announced Sunday evening by Governor Gretchen Whitmer -- including a pause of in-person instruction at high schools and temporarily closing indoor dining rooms and movie theaters -- quickly sparked an outcry that can only be described as hysterical.
It came from a coronavirus advisor to President Trump.
In response to the new restrictions announced by Whitmer, which she described as necessary to address what's become the "worst moment" yet for Michigan amid the coronavirus pandemic, White House coronavirus task force member Dr. Scott Atlas decided that something had to be done in response. So he sent a tweet, one that seemed to encourage people to "rise up" in response to these restrictions.
