I need some help here folks. Google and microsoft support searches are
coming up empty.

I'm trying to set up a Windows telnet server for some data operations. The
objective is to allow remote authentication through telnet, start a
background process using 'bgjob' to process data and then log off the telnet
session (thus leaving the background process to complete). The application
of this is in a mix environment with a mainframe system. The programs on the
mainframe system would kick off the telnet command set to start the job on
the Windows 2003 server.

I have a Windows 2003 R2 (fully patched) system. I've installed SUA from
the Add/Remove/Windows Components.

I've enabled telnet. I've got it set up, and working, with a local user
with rights to telnet. I can telnet in as that user. I can telnet in as the
local admin on the server, I can telnet in as me. No problem.

What I CANNOT do is run bgjob. After some head scratching, I've found that
there is a man page for bgjob...but there's no binary.

How is this installed? Is this common file no longer included in SUA? Do I
need to uninstall SUA, download SFA 3.5 and install it instead???

Thank you

Ted

Hello,

did you mean SFU (Software For Unix) ? you typed SFA

Yes, bgjob comes with SFU

You must then activate it through tnadmin
You can type tnadmin /? to get help

Yes, sorry SFU.

So, what's the SUA on the R2 disks for then?

Re: Windows 2003 Telnet Server / bgjob.exe

SFU allow to publish unix network service on Windows, to be used by unix

SUA allow to launch directly unix software on Windows, or compile unix
source code

Re: Windows 2003 Telnet Server / bgjob.exe

Thank you for your assistance. I did install SFU. I now see where I can
administer telnet and I also see where I can change the server setting to
allow jobs to run after a telnet session closes.

However, I still cannot find the bgjob binary file.

How is it installed?

Thanks

Ted

Re: Windows 2003 Telnet Server / bgjob.exe

i would expect it's an internal command, like dir in cmd

Re: Windows 2003 Telnet Server / bgjob.exe

I found that binary in the directory structure of the installation
package...so I copied it manually to %SFUDIR%\Common\

and I'm fine.
