RIS is an automated installation technology that can be used to install
Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Microsoft Windows 2000 operating
systems. RIS uses Pre-Boot Execution Environment (PXE) technology to enable
client computers without an operating system to start up and connect
remotely to a RIS server, which installs a supported operating system.
