Apple's iOS 15 release is coming up right around the corner, and if history is any indication, it will arrive sometime in late September. And while some iPhone users download new iOS updates as they come in, others tend to steer clear of new iOS updates if their system is otherwise running smoothly.

Though new iOS updates always introduce a bevy of exciting new features, the reality is that a new iOS update can sometimes slow down an older device. Even though Apple works hard to introduce performance enhancements with each iOS update, the reality is that new iOS updates are primarily designed for newer hardware. So sure, iOS 15 will run on an iPhone 6s, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a worthy upgrade if you have a device that old.
