Good morning,

I am receiving a NTLDR error on my workstations when I rename Domain User
Accounts in AD. I am right clicking on user and renaming, then I am prompted
to change all other name information, including email info. The user will
immediately receive a NTLDR error on next logon. There are no significant
errors in event logs that relate to this problem, just Event 1030 and 1058.
USERENV
Thank You for your time and consideration.

Windows 2003 SP2 DCs
Windows XP SP2 Workstations
Native 2003 Forest and Domain mode.

What's an NTLDR error?

Re: Very Urgent: NTLDR error on client when renaming Domain User accounts on Server

I'm sorry maybe this sounds more familiar: NTLDR is Missing (when the OS
Boots).

Re: Very Urgent: NTLDR error on client when renaming Domain User accounts on Server

I am quite familiar with the message "NTLDR is missing", and
as you say, it occurs when a machine boots up. However, you
wrote "The user will immediately receive a NTLDR error on
next logon", which implies that Windows boots up normally
to the logon stage. The two statemens are mutually contradictory:
Either the machine hangs at boot time with an NTLDR error,
or it proceeds to the logon screen.

I also cannot see how renaming a domain account could cause
an NTLDR error. Please clarify. You might also report what
happens when you log on with a local account.
