Can anyone recommend reliable yet affordable tape backup software for Windows 2008?

Don't need fancy features Backup Exec has. Something more down-to-earth like ntbackup.exe to transfer files on tape.

Thanks ;)

Windows tools will be used without of a doubt but since there is no support for tape devices in Windows 2008, I will have to scratch my head.

I didn't realize there was no tape backup option. I backup to another hard drive and then use DeltaCopy to sync it with my offsite server.

It's a few months since you asked, but take a look at Bacula and see if it would work for you. There is a commercial version and support in addition to the free version. Bacula does support at least some tape drives, but most free/open source backup programs that I've seen do not. They also appear to only have the storage/director daemons for 32-bit Server 2008 and only the client for 64-bit 2008, though hopefully that will change.
