Every now and then I'm getting prompted that there are compatibility issues for
Visual Studio 2008 SP1. What issues?

Also, I have had a hard time finding Installer 4.5 for Windows Server 2008, which seems to be a pre-req for SQL Server 2008, any ideas?

Are you trying to run Visual Studio on Windows Server 2008? I have to wonder why - as the name implies, Windows Server 2008 is an OS optimised and developed for a server - it's not really a development OS... but I can't be of any specfic help I'm afraid, unless you've installed a beta version of the SP. Google it - there are known issues.

Installer 4.5 is available from Download details: Windows Installer 4.5 - first result found by putting "microsoft installer 4.5" into Google....

Sure.

lol..I did as well, but initially it would not install on Windows Server 2008 VMs. After a while I had to install a 64 bit version, and, I successfully installed the Installer, however, the installation of SQL Server 2008 is not successful on this version of Windows Server 2008 (from what I can see).

Although it is not intended to be a development server, I would expect a database server to run MS SQL Server 2008. Bug?

The pc in question has the following hardware:
AMD Athlon 64x2 4600+ 2.40Ghz
4Gb RAM
