Hey guys!

I got some questions for you..
My dad wants to have a home server in our house... At first, he wanted some god-like server, which can do everything... But I talked him out of that pretty fast, because it needs A LOT of power, if you want to play games over a terminal session..

Anyways...
The server should be able to hold all our data and to make it accessable...
It'll also run a streaming software, so I can watch stored movies with my PS3...
There we got the first problem... The PS3 can't play the *.mkv format, which means, that the server has to decode the movie and then send it to the PS3...

I store all my bluray movies as *.mkv on my hdd, so more than one person can access it... Of course I own the original dvd of those!

The Server also should be able to perform all the home automation, that will be installed in the next few years, like lightning, shutters, heating, ...

And my father wants it to pick up the dvb-s2 signal, multiply it or kinda like that and then stream it through Coax...
I don't know exaclty what he wants there, but his goal is that u don't need an extra receiver for each tv you want to watch on...

Apart from the last point, everything should be possible without any problems..

I wanted to install Windows Home Server Edition and be happy when it runs..
But my friend told me, that it'd be best to install Windows Server 2008, because I could to things like creating profiles and then, regardless at which pc you are, you got the network drives and all that..

But I'm not sure, if that's the terminal server again?!
Maybe you can tell me a little bit about what's possible or not
