Zone pausing

What is pausing a zone suppose to do? I would think that pausing the DNS zone for a website would cause the domain name not to resolve. Thanks
 
It won't resolve if you pause a domain. I pause a zone when I want to make changes to it. These changes only take a few minutes so rather than stopping the server I pause the zone.
 
When I paused a few of my zones I could still pull up the website. I check to make sure I had it paused on both DNS servers.
