I am running Windows Server 2008 Standard x64 SP2. I've been organizing and consolidating our archived data through the move command (cut and paste).
I really like the new features in Server 2008 that detects same file names and prompts you whether to keep one file or the other or keep both and rename the one being moved.
However, I have to run the cut and paste command many times (10+) before it moves all the data.
For example, say I am moving five folders containing many subfolders and files to a directory that has the same subfolder names. I am prompted first whether to Merge the folders. I click Yes and sometimes the command continues to prompt for the next folder and sometimes the command will stop. Even if I check the box "Do this for all current items", it takes many tries before all the files are moved over.
When I get to the point where I am prompted what to do with identical file names, it doesn't matter if I check the box "Do this for the next X conflicts" (where X is the number of conflicts) or not. It takes many tries before all the files are moved over.
And once the files are all moved, many empty folders are left behind.
I can't seem to find a pattern when it behaves like this, but it does happen every time I do a complex cut and paste like this. I haven't been able to find any documentation of this problem yet, but if you have any experience or ideas as to what's going on, I'd love to hear it.
Thanks!
