Our IT company has folded up, right when we were ready to buy new computers. Tomorrow, we were going to purchase a bunch of new computers. Because I have knowledge with Windows 7, I can easily install software etc.

However, I have no training with 2008 r2 or servers. After I setup the computers and plug them into the network. Will they work and be able to see the network? Or does something need to be setup on the Server. Our current XP workstations, require us to login with a username and password, to be allowed access to the server.

I suppose the simple answer would be to hire a new IT company. However, things take time, we are already getting the new workstations and I don't want them to collect dust during this transition. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hi,

The only problem you could have, regards the version of Windows 7. You need at least the PROFESSIONAL version to be able to join the domain (which is mandatory if you plan to use domain's accounts).

Be sure to set up the client's firewall if needed, then there's nothing else you have to do. Joining a domain is exactly the same of Windows XP.

Let me know if you need further help.
