I have three servers, one linux box (ubuntu server 10.10) that issues out DHCP, and two windows 2008 R2 servers.. One is a dedicated DNS server and I'm trying to set up another one as an Active Directory Domain Controller...
I know for a fact that my DHCP is working correctly, but whenever I try and add my DNS server or even my local machine to the domain, I get this error message "The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "mydomain": the network path was not found"

I have exhausted my google searching skills, what must I do to get my machines authenticated?

Thanks in advance for any, literally any, input you can give

Hi there,

You have a DC which is working correctly? Right? I mean, you installed an Active Directory server and now you want to add another AD server, right?

The error message usually means there's not an AD / domain active... so first of all tell me if my last sentece is right.

City,

I do not have a working DC right now, I installed Active Directory to the server that I want Active Directory to be running on. It uses my DNS as its primary DNS server (I added the contents of the dns file that dcpromo generated whenever it installed Active Directory to the .dns file on my DNS server)

What I'm trying to do is simply add my local machine (a windows 7 machine) to my domain running on my windows server, and it's giving me that error...

Sorry, but I can't understand...

You say: "I do not have a working DC right now"

If you installed the AD, your DC is up and running!

Regarding your client, be sure to set up the correct DNS server (use nslookup to test resolution).

Once you're sure your client has DNS correctly configured, open a command prompt and enter "nslookup", then type:

set query=all
your.domain.name

And post results.

Cheers
