hey guys,

Hope everyone is doing well.

I need some help regarding POP3 emails accounts. I have non domain users who have direct access to the internet , so they can use the outlook by configuring the usual settings for pop and smtp which is normal and working perfectly. Now, when i tried to join these users to a domain, they couldnt access the pop server anymore ( POP3 server is hosted by my ISP ) . I was wondering if its a DNS issue or maybe i have to configure the windows server 2008 to relay or reroute the emails.

so my question is how to configure windows server 2008 ( if needed) to Send and receive e-mail over the Internet so that domain users can access the hosted pop3 server.

Thanks again and hopefully there is a solution.

Regards

It's hard to say...

Join the pc to domain, then try to ping the pop name and see if you have the correct IP. If not, insert a static entry into DNS.

You can also do the following:

Join domain
On one client open the CMD and type: ipconfig /flushdns
Open outlook and wait until the error.
Open CMD and type: ipconfig /displaydns >Result.txt

Post the Result.txt file.

Ok, i think your right, I tried to ping the name of the pop server and I didnt get any reply but i did get a reply when i ping the ip address of the pop server.

Here is the setup of how pc is connected to the domain controller: ( i think it might be a configuration issue from my side)

1. Domain controller : ip address: 192.168.1.5
d.G : 192.168.1.254 ( it belongs to dsl so i can get internet)
DNS: 192.168.1.5 ( pointing to itself , testing environemnt)

2. PC: ip address: 192.168.1.6
DNS: 192.168.1.5 ( pointing to the domain controller )

As a solution, ill try the solution you mentioned which is inserting a static entry into DNS.

Thx again for your help.
Regards
