Hello

I have widnows server 2008 but a fews days all the word and excel files could not be opened, when i want to to open them i get this error message "word cannot start the converter mswrd632.wpc" . after searching in internet i just found this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973904, this article is about 2 years old and it is not for windows server 2003anyway i have dont what is said in that article but nothing has been changed.i have checked the server with Mcafee and no virus is found.can anybpdy help me what could be the problem?

Thank you

Mhhh I assume you are using office 2007...

Try the following:

Delete this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Text Converters\Import\MSWord6.wpc

If this doesn't help, copy this file: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv\MSWord6.wpc

From a computer which is working...

i deleted HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Text Converters\Import\MSWord6.wpc but didn't solve the probelm.

I couldn't find MSWord6.wpc neither on a clean server 2008 not that one with probelm. can i copy it from windows 2003 server ot not?
and also suppose all doc files are on the server, i am trying to open them from the client PC, non of the client could open those doc files, are doc files are corrupted? what cause that? can client open the doc files by copying file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv\MSWord6.wpc on server ?

Yes try to copy from 2k3.

MSWord6.wpc is a file used to convert very old files (word 6). Anyway, when you have that message, if you click the red cross, it should open your file...

there are more than 300 station in my company, which all of them have a problem with word files on a few server, some of them use Office 2003 , the others use office 2007 . those doc file could not be opened on the server side or from the client station.

I could not find anything for MSWORD6 on the server PC
But in My PC Client i found it in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSWord6.wpc
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Text Converters\Import\MSWord6.wpc

thank you for you help

Just to understand...

Try to re-install office on a pc, then on another pc try to rollback (restore) on previous day when you were able to open that file.

before i do that, there is something i should say, that all of the doc files have the same date and time of modification , isn't it just a little weird?event the files that i haven't opened them for years.

Mhhh well this is quite strange... It looks like an update or something like that has screwed up something...

Anyway, try what I've said...
