Just deployed a new server on my home network for storage, DHCP, DNS running Server 2008 Std. Been very disappointed with the transfer speeds I'm getting copying files to and from the server.
Over wireless (g) I'm lucky if I get 1 Mbps. Wired with gb controllers and gb switch I get about 18 Mbps. Drive to drive copies on the server itself fly (around 300 Mbps).
If on the server console itself I browse to "\\localhost\Share" I still get a slow speed (around 28 Mbps). This led me to believe it's a problem with the server configuration, TCP/IP or something.
Any advice or ways to better troubleshoot to narrow it down?
