another question

Hey everyone, Ive learned quite a bit about vb .net in the last 8 months or so. I have lots of books and I come here to solve the problems that I cant on my own. (Thanks for the help) Anyway I Know that I am merely scratching the surface. I guess one of my problems is that I keep getting sidetracked. Now Im working with xml and java script and trying to pick up that stuff too. Anyway to make a long story short I was wondering if someone could give me an idea of what you might consider a novice programmers skill set should include before moving on to more complicated things. I want to make sure that I am spending enough time with the fundamental stuff before stepping it up.

for instance what basic tasks should I be able to perform with vb.net? (intermediate level)?

xml(novice)?

sql(intermediate)?

If you could give me some ideas it would help me make sure Im going in the right direction with my studying. And at the right pace.

Ive always found ever since I stated programming ( PASCAL ) that id try to work on little projects to get my understanding of what ever aspect of programming i wanted to learn. What im saying is you want to learn XML then learn it without side tracking to somthing else there are plenty of tutorials out there now so you task to learn is much in the way of being helped.

The way I look at it nothing is difficult (to a point) if you understand the theory behind it. Once you know that you can break things down and go ARH! so thats how its done.
