The situation is that my current contact ends 23 of this month. Its easy steady work but its VB5 and no prospect of upgrading my knowledge. Should I instead take a month or two off and learn VB.Net in the hope of picking up a VB.Net contract?

I don;t know your situation. I am 23, exploring the world, raising bit-havoc where I can, absorbing knowledge like a spunge.

If you got 26 kids, to mortgages, outstanding loan and plans to visit Japan before you are 60, I wouldn;t quit my job. Security, reliable, you know the keywords.

Yet I don;t think it takes 2 months to become an VB.net expert. (allthough i came from vb6). Just explore the new features, and learn as you go.

Good luck with your desicion

Stay where you are, learn new lenguages in your free-time or push your boss to evolve.

If it (yes the boss is it!) will not evolve, when you are ready (when you know new lenguages), JUMP away and find another job.

NOTE:

Changing job is not easy (in Italy) but it could be nice!
