somehow in VS 2002 after installing the SDK, more options appeared in teh New Project dialog... and now none in VS 2003
thats why Im asking

I have 2002 standard and have never had Directx anything. Are you sure the 2003 version you have is not the standard ed.?

There are VS.Net 2002 project wizards for DX in the DX9 SDK but theyre for 2002 not 2003. The wizards arent particularly good, the code produced is not easy to understand
