Slow copy from NT Domain to AD Domain

I have an NT Server, SP6 that resides on an NT Domain. It copies large (1GB)
files to a AD Member Server that resides in another domain (obviously) - and
furthermore the DNS servers for BOTH domains reside in the AD Domain. There
are no DNS servers in the NT Domain. To assist with this somewhat - we use
host files on the NT Server to direct traffic.

When I copy a file within the NT domain the copy speed is avg of 500MB+/s
When I copy a file across from NT to AD domain the copy speed drops to 20MB+/s

Help. I need to speed this up.

Re: Slow copy from NT Domain to AD Domain

and a copy within the ad domain is fast too ?
any antivirus ?
aeverything on the same lan?

Re: Slow copy from NT Domain to AD Domain

There is antivirus across the board.
Copy within AD is fast too.
Everything on the same network.
What we changed was we removed NT DNS Servers and replaced them with AD DNS
servers - but since we're using hosts files on the NT boxes we are making the
assumption that this is not the problem. The hosts entries are pointing to a
Fileserver cluster virtual name AND that cluster just changed from
Active-Passive to Active-Active - Know any reasons why that would kill the
transfer rate from another domain? (NT Domain)

Re: Slow copy from NT Domain to AD Domain

hostname resolution may take long at beginning, but change nothing once it's
connected.

Did you try with robocopy ?

Re: Slow copy from NT Domain to AD Domain

Yeh, that's actually where I got my stats from...

Actually if anyone could give me some steps to troubleshoot such an issue -
it was working fine before we made these two changes...

OH - and we installed SP2 on both cluster nodes where the files are going....

Re: Slow copy from NT Domain to AD Domain

active/active is not the recommanded way, specially with 2 nodes

any event log error /warning on cluster or NT ?

Same issue if copying using the real hostname of one node's cluster?

Re: Slow copy from NT Domain to AD Domain

Can you give me some issues or a link that would show me some active/active
vs. active/passive setups? This could be the culprit, but so far I don't see
any events - although I'm still going through the event logs.

I'll try the direct copy...

Re: Slow copy from NT Domain to AD Domain

Ok, get this.
I can ping an IP or a Netbios Hostname or a fully qualified hostname
I can tracert any of the above
I cannot do a \\whatevername
I cannot do a \\IPAddress
I cannot do a \\FQDN
I get Network Cannot Be Found on all of them....

Like I said, we took the NT4 DNS and WINS servers AWAY from the NT DOMAIN
and brought up new 2003 servers in the AD DOMAIN (SAME NETWORK) and repointed
the NT Servers to those DNS and WINS servers...
