Notepad - Anyone know what the Status bar does?

i think the status bar shows things like "text copied to clipboard"
"text selected" "file saved"

I really dont know(im not at my XP comp. right now)

It shows line numbers, but you can only use it when you dont have word wrap turned on (is this obvious to anyone else?)

just tried it and yes it only works with wordwrap turned off, showing the count of lines / chars.
does anyone use notepad with wordwrap off though

I hate word-wrap when Im using anything. I have a 1600x1200 resolution, so there arent many times when I need it... It just makes things look messy when things do wrap.

when you copy and paste HTML code into NotePad or when you copy and paste a lot of stuff into notepad

and yes i only use notepad for html stuff so its much better with wordwrap on for that ( im not hard enough to attampt html with wordwrap turned off )

Why would you want to use word-wrap for HTML?! That would be so unbelievably messy. Id probably go insane.

Get a real text editor for HTML. There are hundreds of them out there. Notepad just doent cut it for me. Especially since it cant properly interpret many encodings (particularly unicode, as well as files saved under other OSs). If you have ever tried opening an HTML file or PHP file saved under Linux, it will all be one line due to the incorrect parsing of the Linux newline characters.

I use Visual Studio to edit HTML (and no, not in WYSIWYG mode).

for most stuff i use my own editor, the layouts a bit bare at the moment, but im just using it as a canvas for the custom menus im trying to build.
