Google Toolbar stops popups

Not to be argumentative, but am I the only one who fails to see the use of the Google toolbar? Mozilla and Opera already... ooo... thats right. I forgot about Internet Explorer users...
 
Its self-proclaimed spyware though, so I will never use it. Plus I use Opera. :p[edit]Ok, thats slightly wierd... both of us bumped a relatively old (day-old) thread at exactly the same time. :p[/edit]
 
are u serious about the google toolbar being spyware?

You can choose weather you want to have spyware or not(it says, advanced toolbar - sends statistics to other ppl, or standard toolbar - doesnt send statistics to ppl)

as for adware, i dont think it wll have adware.. becaues it blocks popups

question - wats the poit of using mozilla or netscape?
IEs got all of their features and more! (right,....?)
ok, besides AIM integrated within Netscape(which nobody uses, becaue if u close the browser, AIM closes too)
and besides mozillas popup blocker..
and Operas "worlds fastest browser" thing (heres how i think it works, when you visit your website, Opera creates its own "temporary internet files" - only its not temporary - and it downloads EVERYTHING from a site to the folder, so that next time u visit it, it will load the "temporary internet files" and be fast)
 
OK, maybe the light version of googlebar isnt spyware.

IE has no features at all, really. Its a browser. Its not a tabbed interface, no popup blocking, no integrated mail... it doesnt even render all HTML properly (not that any browser does it perfectly, but better than IE). MS has abandoned IE at this point anyway. 6.0 is the last version. Longhorn will have a fully integrated browser (based on IE, most likely), and there will be no further versions of IE.

Thats all it should be, a browser. Mozilla loads slower then snot (maybe this isnt an issue for those with 3ghz computers), and definitely does not parse HTML better then IE. Integraded mail client; uhm, yay? 3rd party e-mail clients are usually better and the web based mail my ISP provides works just fine. Integraded pop-up blocks; I dont visit porn sites so there isnt much need for that.

I dont have experience with Operah, so I cant say much about that. All I do know is that IE does its job and gives me no reason to download some other browser.

wyrd: Opera is very fast (much moreso than IE). Also, Opera is much less buggy with *proper* HTML than IE, though it may not work with horribly coded sites. Thats the way it should be anyway. Maybe people will start making sites properly. :p
 
Very good point Volte. The rendering wyrd is talking about is more than likely very poorly coded sites that should look terrible (if displayed at all) because they were coded poorly.

Now that I have started using Mozilla, I cant live without the tabbed browsing and all of the script/popup blocking that it does.

Just because you dont visit those types of sites wyrd doesnt mean that these features arent handy, I dont visit them either but still get popups once in a while.

If you used google, or some other search engine, as much as I do they would come in very handy. Sometimes you will search for something and click a link which looks good to you and the next thing you know your browser has been resized to take up the whole screen but it isnt maximized. This is incredibly annoying and just plain bad site design anyway (IMHO), Im very glad that mozilla gives me the option to block that foolishness.
 
I dont know, but most sites Ive seen that are hosted by free webhosts have popups. I visited a site on brinksters free service today and 3 popups came up. Many free sites have switched to ad service to support themselves (though an ad banner should suffice I think).

The other reason I use Opera is becaues it gives full control. Some sites prevent to from right-clicking and it is very annoying, yet Opera will not try and stop you.

The other feature I cannot live without is the Wand in Opera. It saves all the forms you fill out (if you want), and instead of filling them out each time, just click the Wand button and it will fill the form out automatically. I use it for every site. I just wouldnt recommend using it on a comp that other people use (luckily, I paid for my own computer and no-one else uses it at all).
 
Some very good advice from Derek:
For a long time Internet Explorer was the only browser to use, but that time has long since passed. As it stands now, Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Netscape and Opera are all viable solutions. Standards support has increased in all of them in the past year. Features such as tabbed browsing and popup-blocking are found in all the newest versions (except for Internet Explorer), and these are huge productivity aids, to say in the least. There are pros and cons to all the major browsers, but theyre slowly being worked out.

It would be rather uneducated to judge any of the top browsers. Take a week and try one of them out. You might just find something useful.

i just got opera.. i changed my mind about it,
its pretty cool, (when i tried it, i used opera 2) , version 6 is cool.
the only part i hate about it is that you cant set it up for hotmail or yahoo or mail.com :(

and the reason its considered to be fast is because IE, waht it does is waits for the whole page to load before displaying it, and downloads the whole page(except for the text) all at once

Opera, however, downloads the indivisual componets of the page and displays them As soon as theyre done downloading(i think)

overall, its pretty cool

PentiumGuy: whyd you get version 6? Version 7.11 is far, far, far better.
 
Has noone else looked at Avant? It uses IE to display the page, but adds popup blocking, tabs, etc. Probably my fav browser atm, with Mozilla Firebird a close second :)
