Max characters in a string

What is the maximum number of characters a string variable can hold ???

isnt it around 2gig, i know its a very large figure going from memory.

Well, I dont know about the size...

I was looking for how many characters it can handle

If its 2G of memory then its half as many characters.

Ok i am a little bit confused about this....

So you are saying that i can have 1 Gigabyte of characters
And a character is 2 bytes
so a string may hold 10^9 / 2 which is 500 million characters..

So i can put up to 500 million characters in a string is that right??

Sounds about right. Probably not the most memory efficient way of doing things though
