DCPROMO a server

I am looking to decommission one of my domain controllers running Win2K3
server on it. It is 1 of 3 server in this child domain. Can I just DCPROMO
it and be done or are there steps I need to take prior to DCPROMO'ing it?

move any fsmo role to another DC
be sure there is at least another global catalog

explain how to move the FSMO roles on this server or see which roles it is
doing?

YOU WANT TO MOVE THEM, NOT SEIZE, TAKE CARE

Using Ntdsutil.exe to transfer or seize FSMO roles to a domain controller

On a little different note. You are not suppose to have a DC be a global
catalog server if it the owner of the Information Master role. What do you
do if your child domain is the only DC in the domain. Should it be a GC or
just not have one for that child domain?

put it a GC.
It only goes bad if you have DC that are not GC in the domain.
If all DC are GC, it's ok.
If only one DC, it can be a gc
