Anyone in the UK know the best place to get the cheapest price for the above OS?

Thnx

Or...

is there any advantage in a home user getting XP Pro over XP Home?

Is there much of a difference?

I made this mistake when I brought my last computer in Aug. I got home, but Professional has a (better) built in firewall, and a lot more networking options.

Id say get Pro, its only a couple more quid anyway.

Depends on how worried youre about security and networking, XP HE and XP Pro are like 95% the same, just a few things change, making Home Edition more for your house and Pro for your Office, If youre programming, try Pro, but I develop at home with HE and the result is the same

Windows XP Home does not come with IIS, nor does it even come with a basic backup utility. These are necessities for most .NET developers, and should be considered when purchasing either product.

Thanks chaps :)

Just finished tutoring my 16yr old son on building his first computer from the ground up. He runs XP Pro on his laptop and I use W2K on mine. I just needed to know what advantages XP Pro had over XP HE and you have answered that:)

Thnx

If you are a gaming person like myself, brother and a few other people I know, then go for Windows XP Professional. I have heard too many bugs with Windows XP Home Edition and Games, Visual STUDIO .NET and Networking. XP Professional is certainly worth the extra few dollars, but try http://www.ebay.com for Windows XP Pro. (I got an OEM edition for $50US) (at the time, $68 Australian)

Thnx:)

so is there a difference in getting an OEM rather than buying from a shop?

I want to get XP as the AMD Athlon 2.8 chip says it is optimal for XP?
