how to make virus removal tools

Hi all,

does anybody how to start on virus removal tools, like the ones from Symantec.
Im pretty new to vb.net, but hey I want to learn.
How do I start and where?

I cant find any info on the web like examples or something.

Most virus tools work by checking files for certain patterns, for example the Junkie virus (a relatively harmless virus I was continuely infected with in the early 90s on my 486), added a couple of bytes to the beginning of .COM files that loaded the virus into the master boot record.

So I guess a starting point would be creating an application that stores the patterns youre looking for and scans files looking for the pattern.

Seriously though, this is heavy stuff. Have you ever thought about the fact that if you want to test it youll have to actually install viruses?
 
havent thought about that, but I have test pcs at home.
It sure makes it more interesting though, but when I think about it, you need a infected pc to test it on.

btw.

Do you know if there are any examples for these kind of tools, code I mean?
