Ouch.

Those PR guys are going to have a long night. Still not reported on CNN.com, or even confirmed even.

Slashdot.org is so overloaded its feeling its own affect. Some articles are timing out...

Heres the official press release

Well, just imagine that!!!!! how many problems you will get if Microsoft finds out that youve part of his code or even the whole code. They will stop this fast.
But imagine yourself having access to Windows 2000 source code... how much fun youll have fixing all the bugs :D:D:D

What they keep forgetting to mention is that Windows 2000 is actually Windows version 5.0 and XP is 5.1, so if you have the source to Windows NT/2K, chances are, most of that code is still the same in XP...

Personally I have no interest what so ever viewing Windows source code. I was mildly tempted to look at Half Life 2, (but resisted any urges of course) but I know that Windows will be a huge jumbled code base that I wouldnt have a hope in hell of understanding.

Its only a partial leak. I believe it is the same source tree they gave to select universities under strict licensing, as it is about the size of 1 CD. Im surprised it wasnt leaked a long time ago.

i read that the full windows source is spprox 40GB in size, so unless its that big its just part of it.

lol,
thre is hope for a bug free windows,
watever, it will never happen :( .

personaly i dont want to see the windows code,
im paroind as it is, i dont want to know what windows does wihout me knowing, or i mich move to linux

Well you may slag off windows, but XP on my home machine has crashed once in just under 2 years. UNIX at work seems to drop out once a week or so.

my machien craches about every 5 weeks
but hey i run a webserver, photoshop, dreamwever, debug software without rebooting lol so it is a bit normal but still

No, Ill keep it for me and my friends, and maybe create the brand new IEBISOFT!!!!!, wanna be part of it???? send me your resume please. ROFL
Ill like to see Windows source code, will be fun trying to understand what, how and where they do things.
My computer with WXP Pro have never crashed yet, Ive Office 2003, VS.NET 2003, a couple games (simple games), but no, never had a problem with my Windows, and one of the unix servers in the company keeps crashing everyday, DOS and many other things, pretty funny, theyre changing it to a new server.
I dont know how many problems theyve with the windows servers.

Bear in mind that if youre a professional developer and you look at this code, it could pretty much ruin your chances of getting hired, _anywhere_. Companies wont want you (even accidentally) using techniques garnered from that source as it could mean the end of their business if Microsoft finds out.
