Hi

I was wondering if there are any resources anywhere that lists the benefits
and pitfalls of using .com (or other TLD) over .local when creating a new
domain?

Thanks

RE: .com or .local

never use your dns domain name as uour website name.f.i. when your website is
www.mycompany.com never give your internal dns the same name.if you do,you
get problemens with for example connecting to your website from inside.

RE: .com or .local

Thanks

@ Johan Strange, Reading link now! thanks for that

@ Johan deheugden, I have always used .local when creating a domain, however
in nearly all my Microsoft books, they recommend .com and I just can not see
any benefit, so I just wanted to get a better picture.

As for not being able to see the website from outside if you use your tld...
I have that problem! but that is more of a router issue! :P

Anyway,

Thanks both of you.

Wil

RE: .com or .local

if you use a contigeous namespace you can access your website by adding an A
record to your internal DNS called www with the external IP of your Website
