Now, I have looked inside 916281, & indeed this later version of
MSTIME.dll is in there...

| I removed the existing mstime.dll (which was version 6.00.2800.1538),
You had a version higher than my highest, which is ...1537, & I am fully
updated. Too bad deleting it first didn't make a difference. Are you
running Win98 or something else? Can it be you have downloaded the wrong
version of IE6 SP1 (if there is such a thing)? Here is what Bear once
posted for where to get it, but it seems the one version will work in
multiple OS...

After reinstalling Win98, you must upgrade to IE6 SP1 before you can use
Windows Update, yes; otherwise, you should be able to access any other
web-page, including Microsoft's.
Download IE6 SP1 (full; 9 KB - 77.5 MB)

Take that download, if there's any chance your current one is different
or if you think it may be corrupt. You can look into your current
download with WinZip to poke around & see what it is. Here is some of
FileList.dat...

Then, BEFORE installing it, perhaps do the suggested uninstall on that
very page to rid yourself of the malfunctioning copy...
How to uninstall:
1. Make sure Internet Explorer 6 SP1 is not running.
2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
(In Windows XP, click Start and then click Control Panel.)
3. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
4. Select Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP 1.
5. Click Add/Remove
(Change/Remove in Windows 2000 and Windows XP).
| and re-performed the re-installation as suggested above (with only
| explorer running). Same result and error message as before occured.
After doing this, did a new copy of MSTIME.dll show up in
C:\Windows\System? What version was it? The original would be...
6.00.2800.1106.
| Very frustrating, any other suggestions?? How does IE "know" where
| mstime.dll is?
It belongs in C:\Windows\System, where you had it. MS knows that!
