I just got a new computer with XP Pro with service pack 1A and websites that use java wont work. I have XP Pro with service pack 1 on another machine and the sites work.

I have looked a little around on the internet about this and it seems you have to get Java yourself as Microsoft arent packaging it anymore...is that right?

I did find something on Sun Microsystems site to download and I did, but the pages display differently than they use to.

Anyway, who else has found this and what have you done, or is it me not installing something obscure that I didnt see?

Microsoft doesnt bundle Java with any new OS anymore because of legal issues with Sun (which in my opinion hurts Sun more than helps them :)). You can download the newest version of Java from www.java.com.

Thats the one I installed. Think the software you get is a bit of overkill just to get a browser plugin working though.

All the legal wrangling is particularly amusing now since MS and Sun have just signed a cross licensing deal that will make Java available to MS again, if they want it.

Ever since I "upgraded" to use Suns java virtual machine, my browsing experience has drastically declines when Java is needed. When I try and run Yahoo Pool (Billiards, free version through Yahoo.com), all the fonts are SO small.

Im sure MSs version wasnt perfect, just what I got used... I hate change (sometimes)!

I found the yahoo games to be the same, but some other sites the font has increased to a size where it makes it difficult to read.....as in the text doesnt fit in listboxes etc.

Some sites wont even work. I get a security warning as you used to, but this is javas warning and you accept it and it still wont work.
