Creating an Image of a Document

Does anyone know if it is possible to create an image of a document?

for example, if i have a word document and i want a thumbnail image of the 1st page of the document. Is that possible?

I would assume that you should be able to make a new bitmap the size of a page (I think you can change the measurements to use inches instead of pixels), and just paint all of the information in the document into the bitmap, and then just scale the bitmap to the size you want.

I dont know if this will work, and Im not about to go try it, but it sounds good on paper.
