I know this isnt a generic troubleshooting board, but most of what I have found online I have already tried. . .

My IE is slow on specific sites. xtremedotnettalk is fast, but www.allmusic.com is slow.

The funny thing is, Foxfire is fast, the AOL IE Browser is fast too. . .

Ive run ADAware. . . nothing.
Ive run HiJack this and nothing in there smells.
Ive cleaned temp IE files, purged cache, Ive defraged, I scandisked, Ive stood on my head with my thumb up my *****

any ideas???

First, it seemed slow to me in IE but I didnt compare it to anything. The source seems very cookie-heavy. If you have a lot of cookies or if their cookie is large, maybe its all the cookie processing by IE? Since it uses a javascript file maybe youre using an old/new/inbetween Java VM (if thats whats interpreting the javascript)? Of course, IE is far from perfect :)

As for spyware removal, I use Spy Sweeper. It was $25 at a local Costco. I had previously tried Spybot S&D but they dont appear to be updating their checkers anymore. I had one nasty browser plugin that neither Spybot nor AD-Aware would remove. I tried them first but it was Spy Sweeper that finally got it out. If you want to try it, they have a "full" trial edition that lets you download their spyware definitions one time. Good to see if it finds anything even if you dont want to buy it.

That reminds me of a challenge I was once presented with, making a web browser..without using IE controls. I made a very very simple one..<looks for the .zip file he made :D > ... and it ran actually faster than IE lol of course it could only read the very very very simple html commands. and no javascript or any higher languages ...php, dhtml etc..

Hey Joe,

I have had the same problem, as lately it seems that there is just so much spyware out there that there is always something trying to be installed on my computer anymore. I run two main programs, SpybotS&D Available here and webroots spysweeper Available here

In addition, I run Adaware6, which you said you already ran, as well as the wonderful apps provided by our friend Merijn (hijackthis and CWSShredder most notably).

In the end, almost always each will find separate things, and after I run them I usually see a definite increase in speed, that is when Im having problems anyway...which seems to be more often than not these days.

I actually started working on a service at home last night (which I havent gotten very far on yet), which in essence I hope will be able to trap unauthorized installs and delete them at my discretion (from volatile locations). Oh yeah, that reminds me, both Spybot and SpySweeper have features that block unauthorized registry changes and favorites additions and deletes, as well as startup items, so that is always useful, make sure to enable them.

Anyway, Im sure Im going to have some questions about things regarding that service Im thinking of creating (if I ever have time), but in the meantime, I hope those programs help.

Take Care,
Brian
