How much slower is VM?

Hey,

How much slower is Virtual Memory than actual RAM? If its the same speed (which i doubt), then I might as well use 20 GB (exxagurating lol) of VM ;).
A few thousand times slower probobly. As fast as your hard drives IO speed at best, on top of ram.

Its like comparing the speed of thought with writing or typing. You can be a fast writer/typer, but theres hardly any comparison to how fast you can think

Ugh, Im so stupid :),

I should have thought faster than I typed ;).

Not a stupid question.

Personally Im a bit curious as to specifics... either miliseconds or nanoseconds or small units - even percentages.

I havnt kept up on RAM recently with prices falling and my last "Super Computer" was like in 2000 before there were 9 kinds of RAM popularily available. My computer now has 512mb of ram, whichever was cheapest offered by dell.

Between that and Ultra-Whatever hard drives, Id like to know the differences in speed.
