Hi there,
I need to create thumbnails of CMYK images (including .psd). Ive tried freeimage (http://freeimage.sourceforge.net/) but it does not work with CMYK psd. I worked around and used command line calling Infanview (http://www.irfanview.com) to create it for me, however I cannot use a Freeware in my work environment (licence restrictions).

Please help me to find a way to create these thumbnails!

I havent tried this yet, but it would be interesting to load a .psd CMYK image as a string and a CMYK .jpeg image as a string and compare the header information, as VS handles 32 bit, CMYK jpegs easily.

I think youll need to have Photoshop installed on the server if you want to do something like this. Im pretty sure that Windows use Photoshop DLL to "Preview" the image.

If you want to know..... export any PSD file to a XP computer and try to preview the file. It wont load. Nothing. But as soon as you install photoshop.... well you get the preview. :)

Hope I marked the road.

Arch4ngel, hes wanting to use VS to preview the graphic files...not photoshop. My point is that VS will load a 32 bit, CMYK .jpeg file at 300 DPI (this is a print format). Both Adobe (.psd) and Corel (.cpt) have propritory formats, but the files are still 32 bit, CMYK. Chances are very good that the only difference between these formats and the uncompressed jpeg is the header information. Therefore, loading the files in a string format and altering the header will probably work as a conversion so that VS can create a thumbnail of the image.

Ill send you a PM regarding this and not use this thread to discuss experiences and knowledge of and with graphic file formats and "working files" ????
