Who remembers the super bowl commercial that yahoo put out a few years back with the dolphin?

Theres a man on a beautiful, deserted beach and a dolphin pops up out of the water...

Dolphin: "How did you find this place?"
Man: Thinks for a second, "Yahoo."
Dolphin: nods in acceptance and starts to head back into the ocean.
Man: "Wait a minute! How did you learn how to talk?"
Dolphin: Thinks for a second, "Yahoo."

So, how did you find this place? And why do you come back?

Me? Yahoo... I was searching for a solution to an odd VS2003 issue I was having.

I come back because I think its important to be a part of a technical community and to always continue learning about my trade. Just skimming the questions people ask I usually learn a little something new or Im refreshed on something Ive forgotten. There are a lot of smart folks here and I enjoy the community thats sprung up around a common dedication and appreciation to knowledge and learning.

I have a feeling that alot of the answers will be the same. When I began to learn .Net, I ran into a problem (what specifically, I forget). A google search brought me here. Next time I ran into a problem I remembered this website, opened up the history, found it, signed up and asked my question. Here I am, 1000 posts later.

I actually ended up in the VB sister forum initially. I asked my question involving the IDE and was attacked within minutes by something like three or four different people, "hissss .Net ?!?! go away.. This forum is for crusty Visual Basic! hisss" Luckily someone directed me to this forum (on of the nice mods) and Robby, who was very knowledgeable but has long since disappeared was nice enough to answer my post.

I also originally found my way here from the sister forum for VB. I signed up there back when I was first learning to program. Eventually when I got a placement job for my degree and moved into .Net development, I made the natural progression over to this forum.

I was rambling through the Internet one rainy day and happened upon this site.

Most of my postings are in this particular branch of the forum. Usually in terms of syntax and the like I can work with something and figure it out pretty well. What stumps me a lot are the larger overall issues and so this section is where I come to ask those questions.

A great bunch of people and a good community area to be involved with for sure. Keep up the great work

Learning VB6 and Googled the Sister site. When I got thrust into .Net I came here.

This forum used to be a bit more active, but normally activity picks up around when semisters at school start.

Found it at google 2 years ago. Left for a year and now Im back with the thousand post coming close (even though at the moment you read this comment I might be higher... dynamic word you know...)

And I really think a technical society like that is really needed to keep some vital information alive and available for everyone.

There wasnt a great deal of difference between myself and Nerseus joining, both towards the end of 2002.

As far as Im aware (and from some digging in older posts) most of the original mods and admins carried over from the sister forum, as a bit of trivia Divil was the first mod exclusive to this forum (way back in November 2002).

The founding member itself was Bob who originally owned the original EVB forum and then this one before selling them to iNet. As to when the split occured Im guessing around the release of .Net (early to mid 2002).

Other than the initial set of Admins / Mods all badged members have been promoted from the community (other than the iNet group), and as far as Im aware that was how it was originally done on the EVB forum.

I was a regular on the VB forums (same username although I somehow got removed not long after joining these forums). I did VB programming for about 6 or 7 years before switching to C#, hence the switch to these forums. I cant recall how I heard about these - I think there was an announcement on the VB forums and I just switched.

I used to be a Yahoo user but I switched over to google a little while ago (along with the rest of the web it feels like sometimes). Ive found that Google is better for technical stuff while Yahoo is better for pop culture stuff like movies and games. Has anyone played with the new Windows Live search engine? Its actually a pretty crazy interface.
