It is safe to say that the constant nagging of the UAC is unbearable... i
have a mac too and it's a nuissance to have to put your whole password every
now and then but it is nothing compared to Vista's UAC...

So ... How safe is putting UAC in quiet mode? AND will the UAC nagging be
fixed a little bit in SP1.

Well, I can only speak for myself really: I can live with it.

It's not recommended, you would be throwing one of Vista's main security
features overboard. UAC prevents the standard user to make really big
errors, that also includes exposing the system to malware. You should
consider how computer savvy and careful you are, before you decide to do
something with your current configuration.

Here is a read about Microsoft's Vista SP1 plans:

What are you doing that makes UAC unbearable? I get prompts once or twice a
week, and that's when I am testing something, usually to answer this
newsgroup. Rather than try to figure out how to disable it you should take a
look at what is causing the prompts. More than likely the applications you
are using require far more privileges than they should. Turning off UAC,
rather than pushing the developer for applications that work properly, is not
going to solve any problems in the long run.

Answering the original question too: no, it is not recommended to put UAC in
silent mode. If you can elevate silently easily, so can malware.

Your question may already be answered in Windows Vista Security:

How often are you seeing UAC warnings?

You can get more with a kind word and a 2x4 than just a kind word.
