Ahh, a fit of idiocy lost me the complete Win2K installation - including all
the news and e-mail. Thus, I may forget to respond to posts I'd ticked off
as 'watch' items.

Nothing really catastrophic beyond that, (Not the RAID!) but a major pain
non-the-less. And anyhow, 'sleeping is for amateurs'. Nights, at least.

I was removing one of the dual-boot systems and just before copying the
essentials - I just re-booted. I didn't want to do that at all. Thinking
back it almost seems as if it did it on it's own. Naturally, it wasn't
booting, and during the attempted rescue it reported my NTFS partitions as
FAT - I honestly didn't know how to deal with that in a hurry! I honestly
still don't think I would ever have gotten out of that one, smiling.

Well, the bottom line is that win2k is out (for the moment) and the news and
e-mail is back up again elsewhere, now.

Re: Sorry, folks!

Well, one never knows. Many factors weigh in, and I don't do anything
special to be an MVP. I just do what I have always done, try to help others
as I have been helped, and work to build a strong community so we can all
prosper and grow. If MS recognizes that, great. But it isn't why I do it,
and it doesn't change what I do. But I am proud to be able to continue to be
an MVP.

Re: Sorry, folks!

While many MVP's seem to spend an inordinate amount of time responding to
trolls, rather than helping with legitimate problems, you have provided
solutions to problems with which you have been uniquely qualified.
Incidentally, how's your book coming along. Hope you don't have to join a
group of newsgroup addicts to get it done.

Re: Sorry, folks!

As we've seen in the years since this group was created, there are two kinds
of trolls. Those who go away if you ignore them, and those who can be turned
to be productive members of our community. At least one person who posts
constructively here is viewed by some as a troll on another MS NG. He isn't,
but since the responses by some are counter-productive, the overall result
is also counterproductive.

I spent 8-10 years as a CompuServe Sysop and even Wizop. In all that time, I
never once had to L-flag a user for bad behaviour. Though I admit a couple
did tempt me. :) I'm proud of that history, and equally proud of the
community we have created here in this NG. We started out from the very
beginning agreeing we were here to help each other, and we've done that. And
we also agreed (with some occasional prodding<g>) that we wouldn't digress
to AMD v. Intel wars, or any of the other rat holes we could have gone down.

Overall, across all of the communities I've been involved in, MVPs have
consistently provided quality answers to my and others questions. With very
few exceptions, though I'm sure we could all point to a poisonous newsgroup
that is not getting any better. Unfortunately. And troll baiting is a
significant reason why.

Re: Sorry, folks!

Please tell me what MPV stands for. I have had help from a number of MVP's
in the past and although I guess that it means the person is a capable
helper, I would really like to know the true definition.
Many thanks from someone who is greatfull for their existence. Stuart.

Re: Sorry, folks!

Congratulations also to Bruce and RC who frequently post here on their
re-awards as well as Richard and Rick who occasionally drop by.

Re: Sorry, folks!

yes indeed. Always an "interesting" date for those of us who have been
around for several years, since in the old days all MVP awards happened
October 1. Now, it happens quarterly, so newer folks can come on at any
point. (Jane was a July 1st one? Or was that back in April? I don't
remember.)

Re: Sorry, folks!

Well done all MVPs.
You will be pleased to know that a lot of my questions have been to aid
friends and neighbours. But I could never hope to be as brilliant as you
people. Thanks once again for all your past help.

Best regards... Stuart.
