wNero 8 is out.
http://www.nero.com/eng/nero8-introduction.html
Surprisingly the download is almost the same size - around 180 megs - as the
last Nero 7.
Downloaded the trial and installed it in a Virtual Machine running XP x86 SP2.
No new apps found, no problems detected.
Went back to Vista x64, made a system restore point, uninstalled Nero 7 and
gave Nero 8 trial a shot.
Rebooted as required.
Nero SmartStart would not start (error).
Other Nero apps would start but filled the event viewer with
Microsoft.VC80.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.762"
errors and something about WinSxs that I could not work out.
Restored to the safe restore point made before.
I will wait (like Tom Hanks in "The Terminal").
Nero 7 (custom install) does what I need.

Re: Nero 8.1.1.0 is out

I think that Roxio is back to being the best choice. They had a rough patch
after Adaptec, but seem to have gotten it back together. Creator 9 and
probably the new Creator 10, which I have not tried, have worked perfectly
for many in XP and Vista both 86 and 64

Worst of all, they've also jumped on the "Activation" bandwagon.
http://www.nero.com/eng/support-nero8-faq.html?s=sub&t=Activation
How many legit users will be hit by this?
Another reason to stay with Nero 7.

Re: Nero 8.1.1.0 is out

Interesting. I've been avoiding them like the plague since they got bought
out by Sonic, whom I seriously loathe. I was always a big fan of CDCreator
in the old days, and even used them through the rough patch when they first
left Adaptec.

Hi, Roman:
I will check that one when I get back home.
Thanks!

Please report your findings. IMHO tiny ImgBurn (1.5 MB)
seems to be very powerful, but some of the features are
not so obvious.

BTW, my previous post was in fact a mistake - what I really
wanted to recommend was InfraRecorder:
http://infrarecorder.sourceforge.net/
which is based on win32 (win64 :) port of cdrtools:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cdrtools

HTH, Roman

P.S. There is a portable version in work:
http://portableapps.com/node/8035
(haven't tried it)

Re: Nero 8.1.1.0 is out

The only good thing about Roxio is burning data and music, all the other
stuff never works very well or not at all

Well, that's fine. That's all I ever need to do.
