Hello,

I want to install Terminal Server on an exsiting MS Windows 2003 Enterprise
Edition File, Print, database, & web server. What I want to do is install
QuickBooks and have users access QB via Terminal Server.
1. Can I install TS on this server without it effecting any of the other
rolls of the server?
2. If so, can I configure the same server to be a licensing server as well.
3. Should I purchase per device or per user licenses? I'm thinking per
device.

Thank you,

Did you check how high is the load of the server? But i would not do it on
this server, better use a separat machine with a good processor and minimum
4GB of RAM. Per user you can count between 40-70 MB RAM use.

TS Licensing server has to run on a Domain controller.

You need a Client access license for every TS user

Re: New TS Deployment

Only 3 people are going to be accessing the server via TS. I'm going to
check and see if I have a spare server available.

Apart from the server load and number of TS users, you have to take
into account that installing Terminal Services will change the
internal tuning of your server (foreground versusu abckground
processes, services versus interactive sessions). So installing TS
could have a profounjd negative impact on (mainly, but not
exclusively) the database server role of the server.

The above is true for a W2K LS only. The OP has a 2003 server, and
a 2003 TS Licensing Server can run on any member server in the
domain.

No, you need a TS CAL for every client OR user who connect to the
TS.
If you have more clients than users (i.e. users connect from more
than one client: their office client and a laptop and their home
PC), then Per User licensing is cheapest.
If you have more users than clients (i.e. users work in shifts and
share their workstation), then licensing Per Device is cheapest.

RE: New TS Deployment

Can't believe I am offerring help, but I have learned this. Unless you have
Quickbooks Enterprise. Or QB 2007. QB does NOT run in terminal services mode.
That is to say , if you have QB2005, 2006 look at the box. It will not run in
TS.

RE: New TS Deployment

Older versions need a lot of tinkering, but they can be made to run
on a TS, without making all users Administrators:

I've always been told (and you get warnings after installing TS) that
previously installed applications may be affected. I think you are in
trouble if you just install TS....
