Hello, I would like to build an open source IRCd in C#.NET and am looking for people who might be interested in this project. Firstly I would like to say I am a fully certified Microsoft professional (MCTS: Web, Windows & Distributed Apps) so this isnt a random instant-fail project like so many others.
The goal of the project is to prove that a stable, scalable, IRC daemon can be built in a .NET language and will work better than many others by supporting nick/channel registration as core concepts rather than addons. The IRCd will make use of regular expressions for improved ban effectiveness and we will look to the IRC Security mailing list for suggestions on how to make IRC more resistant to botnets, floods and takeovers.
I have a project plan already laid out and could complete this on my own but I would prefer to open this up to the community and host it on Codeplex as IRC, in general, is in need of some loving attention. So, to finish this post, I would like to know if anyone is interested in joining me on this? Everyone is welcome but experience with C# .NET 2.0 is very much a requirement.
