Thank you allan.

I need IPSec Sevice to use it for a L2TP IPSec VPN connection. I installed
SP2 and also kb907865. Event viewer shows me this:
-----------------
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7023
Date: 10/7/2007
Time: 3:17:48 PM
User: N/A
Computer: GALAXY
Description:
The IPSEC Services service terminated with the following error:
An invalid argument was supplied.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
-----------------

Which is not useful. IPv6 is not install on my computer. Shall I install it?

I am also using Comodo anti virus, but when trying to start the IPSec
service, I exit Comodo.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Mehrdad

Problem to start IPSec Service

Hi all,

I hope i put the question in the correct group!

I am trying to start the IPSEC service on my Windows XP Pro computer, but I
get this error message:
-------------------------
Could not start the IPSEC Services service on Local Computer.
Error 10022: An invalid argument was supplied.
-------------------------
I also added the OperationMode key in the registry and set its value to 0
(permit), but I still have the same problem. Any help?

Thank you,
Mehrdad

RE: Problem to start IPSec Service

It could be a registry problem. See the link:
IPSEC Services
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/Services/IPSEC_Services.htm

Below the page is the Default Registry Entries. You can compare yours.
Another is to use system restore.

Hello , Mehrdad :
First of all, why do you believe you need the IPSEC service enabled? Is it
for a security reason? Do you have SP2 installed? Have you tried looking at
the Event Viewer for more information? It may ask you to install a
"snap-in". Finally, I was just wondering whether you have the ipv6 stack
installed. Post back with any additional relevent information you can
supply.

You should not need to have the ipv6 stack installed in order to start the
IPSEC service. Have you tried checking in MS's online KB for this error? Is
it an OEM version of Windows , if so which one, such as HP, Dell ? The only
other group I can think of cross-posting to would be
microsoft.public.windowsxp.security_admin . The IPSEC service is by default
set to start "Automatic"-ally I believe.

I`ve had the same problem and it is caused by the Comodo Antivirus.
I`ve uninstalled comodo antivirus and the IPSEC started after
rebooting. Just to STOP the antivirus service doesn`t help.
You can try just to use services.msc, stop antivirus service and DENY
it to start, then reboot and run the IPSEC without problem :-)
