Hi,

I am getting a problem when users try to print webpages from our 64 bit
windows servers while they are TS'ing or citrixing in.

When they print the page comes out blank.Even print preview is blank. When I
get onto the server, I am seeing "thunking errors". The print server is a
2003 32bit box. I have installed the 32bit drivers but then added x64 2003 as
an additional print device on the print server and loaded 64 bit drivers for
the printers.

All the printers are doing this. However, if we get the same users using the
same printers on a 32 bit 2003 machine, everything works fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi,
that sounds a little bit confuse. You installed 64-bit priter diver to
a 32 -bit Server with 32-print driver !
Most producer HP/Canon..... uses sometimes same names example
hpdmon.dll and others so if you install same printer with different
versions on same Server you will get some problems here. The producer

There I would suggest to reinstall all 64 Bit drivers from your 2003
32bit Print Server.

cheers

Re: printing blank pages with 64 bit 2003

hi,

sorry I should have explained it better:)

My print server is 32 bit Windows 2003.

My citrix Server is 64 bit windows 2003.

I have installed the 32 bit drivers on the print server, but have also
installed the 64 bit drivers on the print server.

What I am getting is the print happens but the actual image is blank. Even
on the print preview is blank.

I have also tried a universal print driver

Re: printing blank pages with 64 bit 2003

Hi,

What program are they using to print the web pages? Is
it Internet Explorer 32-bit or 64-bit? If they are using
a 32-bit browser, what happens if they try and print
the page from IE 64-bit?

Are they able to print plain text from notepad?

Are you running 2003 SP2 on your TS? There are some
32-bit printing bugs that were fixed in SP2.

What are the *exact* error messages appearing in your
logs, including Event Source, ID, Type, Description, etc?

Re: printing blank pages with 64 bit 2003

Tp,

Thanks for your help, There are no errors.

What we actually see is the page come out with the header and footer
printed, ie the date and the print job name, but the actually body of the
print is blank.

If you do a print preview, you see the saem thing, a header and a footer but
nothing in the body.

If we move the user to a 32bit machine, then everything works fine.

The way I set the printers up on our print server was the usual, add printer
(32 bit) and then added the 64 bit drivers as an additional operating system.

The issue occurs whether we are using 32 bit or 64bit Internet Explorer

Re: printing blank pages with 64 bit 2003

Hi,

In your original post you mentioned "thunking errors". This
is why I was requesting you post the exact error message
including Source, Event ID, Description, etc.

Are you running SP2 on your TS? There are some 32-bit
printing bugs that were fixed in SP2.

Are they able to print from notepad?

Please create a local printer directly on the TS just for
testing purposes. Set the model to an HP LaserJet 4.
Once you have this created set it as the default printer,
open up IE, and try print preview. Does the body of the
page show up?

Thanks.

Re: printing blank pages with 64 bit 2003

Hi,

I think this particular issue is fixed, still not sure what is cause the
thunking spooler issue.

For anyone interested, I have been speaking to MS today and the setting
seems to be the "Allow Active Content to run in files on My Computer" in the
Advanced tab on the Internet Explorer Options.

I honestly have no idea why this would cause blank pages to print on
Terminal Services, but checking the box seems to fix the problem

Re: printing blank pages with 64 bit 2003

Hi,

Thank you for posting back with the fix.

That makes sense, many pages include active content and
if that is disabled perhaps IE has a problem rendering
*any* of the page contents.
