Another rookie question from a non-tech. (Win 2003 TS) We have one user w/
an HP 1015 laser printer at home. It doesn't show up anywhere on his cptr
when he's home & in WTS. It is installed on the server. Any ideas?

Thx,

D

Re: HP 1015 laser doesn't show up in list of printers when remotely connected

Hi,

Please have him install the version of Remote Desktop that
is included with your 2003 server. The install file for it is
located on your server's hard drive here:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\clients\tsclient\win32\msrdpcli.msi

The other thing is to make sure the driver you are using is
the one specified in hp's chart:

http://h71028.www7.hp.com/ERC/downloads/4AA0-8465ENW.pdf

Thanks.

If that thing behaves like its HP LaserJet 1022 cousin, DO NOT, I repeat DO
NOT, install its drivers on the server or you will crash your print spooler
when printing to the remote 1015. The document referenced by TP says to use
the HP LJ 1200 driver built into the OS. Do that and you should be fine.

Uh, never mind! The HP 1200 driver to which the PDF refers is for 64-bit
2003.

The 1022 needs the HP LJ 6L driver or it crashes the spooler.

I jumped too soon, sorry.

Re: HP 1015 laser doesn't show up in list of printers when remotely connected

Hi Gregg,

Thank you for the warning.

The 1022 specs show it to be a host-based printer. Host
based printers make bad TS printers unless a third-party
universal printer driver solution is used.

The 1015 is not host based according to the specs, however,
it is from a family of printers that are host based so perhaps
there *could* be trouble. The specs even say the language
is PCL 5e or the host based driver.

I would still recommend Dana try the driver HP mentions
in their chart first (it is the PCL5e driver) and if there are issues
map to a driver included on the 2003 CD-ROM or consider
a third-party UPD solution.

Re: HP 1015 laser doesn't show up in list of printers when remotely connected

The HP 1022 works perfectly IF you use the recommended HP LaserJet 6L
driver. I missed that part and used the factory driver on the workstation
and tried mapping it on the server. I did not install any HP driver on the
TS, but this puppy hung the spooler and the print jobs took about 15 minutes
to print two pages. Once I removed the 1022 drivers from the remote
workstation and used the LaserJet 6L driver, it worked just fine. This was
on a 2000 TS.
