best practise for storing CR LF in their original non normalised form

I am using msxml4 and when I store CR+LF pairs they are normalized to a single newline. Additionally, when I store as charecters references they are still normalised.
<span style="text-decoration:underline I understand that this is as per XML spec, but I need to store line terms as is. Any suggestions?
