My old XP PC died and I bought a new HP with Vista Premimum and ran across
the following problems.

1) Found out it had no faxing capability like XP unless you got Ulitimate
bad mistake on Microsoft part - web searches recommended snappy fax or fax
talk but again at additional cost but cheeaper that the fulll blown Vista
Packages. - wish they would include it as a Vista SP1 addition

2) My Hotmail no longer has the drop down box under attachments for
pictures. The blogs say start with windows photo gallery, select what I want
to attach, then click e-mail. How ever I dont every work backward with mail I
usually write my letter then attach my pictures and use the MSN Photo Upload
Tool to assist. Does anyone else have this problem of not having the picure
option in the drop down in the attachment of hotmail?

3) My Yahoo links are no longer clickable (sending email to Yahoo support
has been a waste of time) - Clicking on an link from within Yahoo IM whether
it is to check mail or on any link on yahoo messenger insider does not lauch
the application. Again any clues?

4) If I step away from my PC for say 20 minuntes and return it appreas to go
into a sleep mode knocking of my network connections. About 80% of the time I
can wake it but the out times requires a power reset. This also happens when
the screen goes dark before asking you to confirm you want a program run or
not. The screen goes dark then returns with the question again in about 10%
of the case it stays dark . I applied every upadte that Microsoft has issued.
But again in reading internet blogs there is a patch that Microsoft is
issuing on a case by case basis. Why do that if there seems to be widespread
problems.

5) My Pinncale Movie maker does not work any longer under Vista I read
where it requires Ver 11. I have already upgraded twice - orignally bought
ver 7 which kept freezing, then ver 8, folowed by ver 9. In each case it cost
me money. Now Pinnacle wants another $99 for an upgrade. In addition their
USB Movie Box does not seem to play well with Vista. As a test I downloaded
their newest USB patch and Vista inttermittently kept complaining about
errors coming from it. Do you think I want to spend another sum of money for
something buggy?

As time goes on I will see how much of my software that ran on XP just fine
will no longer work on Vista. I am now beginning to think it was a mistake
buying another microsoft based PC. Apple is looking better all the time .
Stable O/S, compatabillity, use of parallels or VM Ware to run Microsoft O/S
and the advantage of speed and graphics manipulation.

Re: Mutiple Vista Issues

Welcome to Vista....

all you had to do BEFORE buying was come in here and ask if vista was good.

I would then tell you with all the worse words I could find to discribe what
a peice of crap it is.

Vista is a 10 gb install.. there was no room for something useless like
FAX.. they wanted to have Flip 3d instead! lol

You might want to try (although I am not sure its a good idea) the new live
mail desktop
http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas

3) My Yahoo links are no longer clickable (sending email to Yahoo support
has been a waste of time)

MAKE SURE IE7 is your DEFAULT BROWSER> Press ALT so the stupid hidden menu
bar shows, then go to Tools>
Internet options, then go to Programs, there is a button there to make IE7
default as well as a checkmark to remind you if its not.

You will have to upgrade sorry... there is movie maker that is not so good
but it is included with vista...

You are darn right it was a mistake! I dont want to disappoint you.. but I
must make it clear that vista
is a mistake not only for you.. but for everyone...

It should be avoided and condemned.

Not really. I've software from the '90's that runs just fine on Vista.
You may have to run some in compatibility mode.

Re: Mutiple Vista Issues

1) i may be wrong, but xp home dont have fax either, only business related
versions of either vista or xp have it (again, i may be wrong), i dont use
fax really so i cant help a lot, but im pretty sure there are free
alternatives to windows fax

3) it may be a problem related with yahoo im, there were already a couple of
problems posted by another people, it may be worth asking to yahoo support
if nothing else works

4) look into energy options in control panel, and configure it to stop going
to sleep as it may be configured to do so, about the secure desktop issue i
dont know sorry

5) pinnacle is not specially famous for making great software in terms of
stability and compatibility, plus they dont update for free even one only
version :-(
if you dont need a great deal of video editing, try a couple of days the
included movie maker (because it comes for free), else you have 2 options:
upgrade your pinnacle entire system (it may be needed to upgrade the usb box
also), or stick with xp for now until you are ready to pay for the upgrade
(because pinnacle will not make the v9 compatible, you will always need to
upgrade)

it is kind of opinions and personal experience, i did use osx and felt
pretty limited (like if i were in a closed room without any holes), and
theres no speed advantage at all, that said, it is needed to point that osx
has, from its first 2 years or so, programs ready for its desktop
technology, while in vista the software makers are being pretty lazy in get
advantage of comparable capabilities (though not a year has passed even),
thus some programs may draw noticeable slower when you have aero enabled
while some others will be a breeze, i personally think that the desktop
composition needed to be the only possibility (despite some programs unable
to run with aero) so new programs would be much prepared to use it, but
obviously is too much of a change and typical users want more compatibility
instead

He runs what he claims is marketing/adverting business.
He claimed to "build" computer hardware which he later admitted

He's handsome... that claim made me spill coffee on my keyboard.

And of course the big whopper, he likes to pretend he's some kind of

So Frank is well, maybe better if people form their own opinion.

I have lost much of this story..

this is because this info is given on long flamewars he creates with
numerous users that I have no wish to read...

If he is old I would show some respect even if he is incorrect...

I would do that.. yes.
