Hi All,

Having a weird problem at the moment. Up until about a week ago I could
connect in fine using RDP 6.0. Now, when trying to connect to a server (and
workstations) at a remote site over a VPN it starts the connection into the
server (or PC) but it won't bring up the login screen. It just stays on the
Grey (or Blue) screen with the "connection bar" at the top in full screen
mode. I can still RDP into the servers at this location.

The only thing that has changed between it working and not is that our ISP
reconfigured the ADSL router changing it to PPPoE/PPoA. This was done
remotely by them and they said that was the only info they changed!!!

It's weird that it starts the connection but just won't let the login window
appear. To close it down I have to click on the "x" in the connection bar.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated....

Cheers, Stephen

Good day Stephan,

You might want to kill your sessions with the terminal services
manager and retry connecting, you might have a session in wich
explorer.exe crashed - thus not showing you the taskbar and icons.
When you close the session on your workstation by clicking on the X in
the yellow bar on top, the session just lives on on the server, so
when you reconnect, you actually reconnect into your session and
having the same problem again.

Let me know if this works for you,

Re: "Blank" Connection...

Sounds like a problem with the MTU size of the connection.

From: Microsofts Terminal Services FAQ
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/en-
us/terminal/terminal_faq.mspx

Q. Sometimes when I connect to my terminal server, I see a black
screen. Why does this occur?

A. This typically occurs if there is a device between the client
and the server that is receiving packets but not passing them on.
One way around this problem is to change the MTU size for the
network adapter that is being used as a terminal server connection
to clients.

Ethernet uses a maximum MTU size of 1500. You can start with 500
and then slowly move up until you notice the problem to find the
correct value to set

Hi Oscar,

Thanks for the suggestion and I will see if their are any current sessions
when I get out to the remote site next.
